Day trips from St. Martin
Alpenhof in St. Martin am Tennengebirge gives you a quiet base for trips across SalzburgerLand and the Dachstein region. You can choose a city day, a cave visit, a mountain viewpoint or a historic village without moving hotels. These are different experiences with different seasons and ticket rules. Check each attraction’s official visitor information before committing to a date; we do not assume that a seasonal road or cable car will be open.
Salzburg for a city day
Salzburg offers the historic centre, museums and Hohensalzburg Fortress. For a visit with time to explore rather than rush, choose the sights you most want to see and check opening times and tickets. The official Salzburg tourism page is a useful starting point for the fortress. Public transport and parking arrangements should be checked for your actual travel day.
Ice and mountain scenery
Near Werfen, Eisriesenwelt is a guided ice-cave visit with an uphill approach and many steps; check the operator’s physical requirements and seasonal operation. For a mountain viewpoint, distinguish the Dachstein Glacier Skywalk from 5fingers on Krippenstein above Obertraun. They are different cable-car destinations. The 5fingers platform is reached on foot from Krippenstein’s upper station; its operator gives a walk of roughly 20–30 minutes. Check cable-car operation, visibility, tickets and clothing before choosing either mountain day.
Hallstatt and the Salzkammergut
Hallstatt is a historic lakeside destination, but arrival and parking are worth planning. The Salzwelten Hallstatt visitor page explains the salt mine and its access. If you also want the 5fingers viewpoint, remember that it is a separate trip via Obertraun and the Krippenstein cable car, not a sight reached from Hallstatt’s village streets.
A scenic road or a gorge walk
The Großglockner High Alpine Road is a full-day scenic drive with a seasonal opening and weather-dependent access. Check the operator’s current opening times and road status before setting off. For a different kind of day, the Liechtensteinklamm near St. Johann im Pongau is a gorge walk with stairs; check its current access and opening information before visiting. Choose one major outing for the day instead of trying to combine several distant attractions.
